PAWEŁ KORAB KOWALSKI

MAP-TERRITORY - An attempt to confront two separate ideas which share common traits. Map as a graphic image of Earth and a territory, as a designated area controlled by a country. The starting point for the pictorial contemplation for the artist was the ongoing dispute between Mauritius and the United Kingdom over the Chagos Archipelago. One of the most important american and at the same time most controversial US military bases in the world. To establish it the inhabitants of the archipelago were irrevocably displaced. This case is just one among many examples of human rights violations. Korab draws attention to the fact that when we look at the map, we see something different than when we look at the territory.
